11.3. Severe Weather Event Reporting.

11.3.1. The following sighted events may be reported to the NCS of a severe weather net:

1. Cloud Formations
• Roll clouds (indicates strong straight-line winds)
• Wall cloud, with or without rotation
• Rotating Funnel shaped clouds
• Roar and debris
• TORNADO (funnel cloud touching ground

2. Hail
• Pea size (1/4) or larger
• Is the ground covered or not (intensity)

3. Winds over 40 MPH (unless directed otherwise)
• When ESTIMATING wind speed use the Guide in SOP
• If MEASURED by wind instruments (e.g., Weather Station) say “measured” in report

4. Flash Flooding
• Streams out of bank
• Ponding of water in streets (including depth)
• Water standing curb to curb

5. Rain gauge reports
• Immediate; 1” or more within 1 hour
• After Event; Total measured for that storm
• (Be sure to empty your rain gauge before the storm!!)

6. Damage Reports
• Damage to buildings, trees and utility poles, any limbs down, and the diameter of the limbs/trees and the direction they fell
DO NOT REPORT (to Dayton or Wayne County SKYWARN)
• Lighting (all severe storms contain lightning and it is not possible to warn for lightning
• Activation/Non-Activation of Warning Sirens
• Information overheard on Public Service Radio (e.g. police, fire, sheriff-unless specifically requested)
• Power outages and Traffic Accidents maybe reported only to the Wayne County SKYWARN, but not to Dayton SKYWARN.
